How to calculate wallpaper rolls
- Measure your walls. Enter each wall’s width and height (or the room perimeter and ceiling height).
- Set the pattern. Pick the match type and enter the pattern repeat from the roll label.
- Choose your roll. Select a roll preset (European, US double, peel & stick) or enter custom dimensions.
- Read the result. See rolls to buy, cost and paste, with a per-wall breakdown and diagram.
- Buy one batch. Order every roll in one purchase with the same batch number, plus one spare.
A worked example
A 12 m room with 2.4 m walls needs 23 drops from a 53 cm-wide roll. With a 52 cm straight repeat, the 2.50 m trimmed height rounds to a 2.60 m cut, so only three drops fit on a 10.05 m roll. Eight base rolls become nine with the default buffer, then ten with the repair roll.

Frequently asked questions
What measurements do I need for wallpaper?
Measure the width and height of every wall, or the total room perimeter and common height. From the wallpaper label you also need roll width, roll length, pattern repeat and match type.
How do I calculate wallpaper rolls manually?
Divide wall width by roll width and round up for drops. Add trim to wall height and round that cut up for the pattern match. Divide roll length by cut length, round down, then divide drops needed by drops per roll and round up for each wall.
Do I round wallpaper rolls up or down?
Always round the drops across a wall up, round the drops obtainable from a roll down, and round rolls for each wall up. Those directions reflect physical pieces; reversing any of them can leave a wall unfinished.
Can leftover wallpaper from one wall cover another?
Do not assume patterned offcuts can cross a corner. The next wall often needs a fresh aligned sequence, so this calculator rounds rolls per wall in detailed mode. Plain free-match paper is more reusable, but a conservative order is still safer.
Is one spare wallpaper roll necessary?
It is strongly recommended. A sealed same-batch spare can replace future damage, cover measuring mistakes and avoid a visible colour mismatch if the design or dye lot is later unavailable.
What if my wallpaper roll is too short for one drop?
The calculator flags the roll as too short when the repeat-rounded cut exceeds its length. Choose a longer product or a correctly sized panel; joining pieces vertically is normally visible and not a valid substitute.
