How this calculator works + FAQs

A mural is one composed image, so start with the exact finished wall rather than a room perimeter. This mode uses a single custom wall, divides it into the selected panel width, checks panel height plus trim, and draws the elevation so you can compare the order dimensions with the supplier proof.

How to calculate wallpaper rolls

  1. Measure your walls. Enter each wall’s width and height (or the room perimeter and ceiling height).
  2. Set the pattern. Pick the match type and enter the pattern repeat from the roll label.
  3. Choose your roll. Select a roll preset (European, US double, peel & stick) or enter custom dimensions.
  4. Read the result. See rolls to buy, cost and paste, with a per-wall breakdown and diagram.
  5. Buy one batch. Order every roll in one purchase with the same batch number, plus one spare.

A worked example

A 4.0 m-wide wall divided into 61 cm panels needs seven vertical pieces. At 2.4 m high with 10 cm total trim, every panel must provide at least 2.50 m of usable length. Enter the supplier’s exact panel width and maximum length before accepting the final mural size.

Use this calculator for

  • Made-to-measure murals. Translate one wall measurement into the width, height and complete panel count for checkout.
  • Photo wallcoverings. Check that a cropped image composition still covers the wall with installation trim.
  • Commercial feature walls. Print an elevation that installers and the mural supplier can compare before production.
  • Panelled mural kits. Verify the number of numbered drops and the maximum usable height against the box contents.
  • Cost comparison. Apply a per-panel or single-roll-equivalent price consistently when comparing suppliers.

Frequently asked questions

What wall measurements does a mural supplier need?

Measure the wall at several points and use the greatest width and height, then add the supplier’s stated bleed or trim allowance. Also note doors, windows, slopes and anything that affects the important part of the image.

How many mural panels do I need?

Divide the mural width by the effective panel width and round up. The supplier may fix the panel count when generating the artwork, so use this result to check the proof rather than changing numbered panels independently.

Should a wall mural include extra width and height?

Yes. Walls are rarely perfectly square, so manufacturers normally request bleed beyond the measured edges. The calculator includes a trim allowance, but follow the supplier’s specific production margin.

Can I subtract a door or window from a mural?

Usually order the continuous mural and trim it around openings so the image remains aligned. Share opening positions with the designer when they could crop a face, logo or other important subject.

Does a mural use pattern repeat?

A custom mural is normally one continuous image with numbered panels, so it behaves like a free match in quantity planning. A repeating mural-style wallpaper should instead use its labelled straight or half-drop repeat.

What should I check on the mural proof?

Confirm finished width and height, bleed, panel count, panel order, crop position, resolution and material type. Compare all of them with the printed wall elevation before approving production.
