How this calculator works + FAQs

Peel-and-stick wallpaper is commonly sold as short panels rather than long decorator rolls, so area-only math is especially risky. This preset counts full-height panels across each wall, checks that the repeat-rounded cut fits the 12 ft length, and removes paste from the list automatically.

How to calculate wallpaper rolls

  1. Measure your walls. Enter each wall’s width and height (or the room perimeter and ceiling height).
  2. Set the pattern. Pick the match type and enter the pattern repeat from the roll label.
  3. Choose your roll. Select a roll preset (European, US double, peel & stick) or enter custom dimensions.
  4. Read the result. See rolls to buy, cost and paste, with a per-wall breakdown and diagram.
  5. Buy one batch. Order every roll in one purchase with the same batch number, plus one spare.

A worked example

A 3.0 m-wide wall needs five panels at 61 cm each. If its trimmed and repeat-rounded cut stays within the 3.66 m panel length, each package yields one full drop. The calculator then applies your buffer and optional repair panel so every piece can come from the same print batch.

Use this calculator for

  • Rental-friendly updates. Count removable panels for a feature wall without adding adhesive to the shopping list.
  • Spoonflower-size panels. Start from the common 24 in × 12 ft format and replace dimensions if your listing differs.
  • Nursery accent walls. See seams and pattern bands before committing to a prominent patterned wall.
  • Short panel checks. Catch products that cannot produce one repeat-aligned drop at your wall height.
  • Replacement planning. Keep one same-run panel for tears, lifting edges or a later furniture change.

Frequently asked questions

How many peel-and-stick panels do I need?

Divide wall width by panel width and round up, then confirm the panel is long enough for the wall height, trim and pattern match. This calculator performs both checks and adds your chosen buffer and repair panel.

Can I calculate peel-and-stick wallpaper by square feet?

Square feet is only a rough check. Panels must span the wall height and align at the seams, so a product can have enough area but too few usable full-height strips. Panel counting is the safer method.

What size panel does this preset use?

The default is 24 inches wide by 12 feet long, approximately 0.61 m × 3.66 m. Always replace those dimensions with the exact size on your product listing when they differ.

Do I need pattern-repeat allowance for peel-and-stick?

Yes, unless the design is a free match. Straight and half-drop patterns may require vertical shifting, which can make the usable cut longer and determine whether one panel reaches the floor.

Should peel-and-stick wallpaper overlap?

Most products are installed with butt seams, while a few specify a small overlap. Follow the manufacturer’s seam directions; the calculator uses the labelled panel width as the effective coverage.

Does peel-and-stick wallpaper need a spare panel?

A spare is useful because print colour can change between runs and removed panels may stretch or tear. Keep it flat or rolled as directed, with its backing in place.
